ReadMe: The Case of the Pen Gone Missing
Professor Pocket::Sing Spanish, Speak Spanish
That's why the language-introduction approach used in the Professor Pocket CD's was completely relevant to us. Professor Pocket is a family-owned company that's created two bilingual (Spanish/English) CDs and supplemental materials to help children develop a lifelong passion for learning languages. At first, I thought Camila was still too young to completely understand and follow the storyline in "Our Silly Farm Adventure" since it's recommended for children ages 2 and up. That was not the case at all. Maybe she still doesn't grasp the context of what she is listening to, but she loves the silly animal sounds, the catchy songs and the identifiable kids' voices. I've also caught her adorably repeating the key words and anticipating the songs many times. ...

Spanish Language Usborne Books
This giveaway is now closed. The winner is Debbie R. Even before Vanessa was born, I was hooked on Usborne books. I think it was my mom who brought me our first copies from México and I immediately took to them. The books are colorful and beautifully illustrated. And, even though they are not originally written in Spanish, the translations are well done. Another reason I like them is because they’re super sturdy and many of them are the perfectRead More ...

Handstand Kids Mexican Cookbook
Roxana first found this cookbook when she wrote about new bilingual toys for 2009. We were instantly fascinated by the genius idea of creating a set of multicultural cookbooks with the aim of teaching children about different countries' customs and languages via food. That just seemed so correctly in tune with our mission to raise bilingual and bicultural children through fun and meaningful activities. We've written several posts under the category of The Culture of Food because we truly believe that our traditional foods are one of the easiest and tastiest ways to connect our children with our roots, as well as an excellent way to open them to other cultures. I set out on a mission to get my hands on a copy of the Handstand Kids Mexican Cookbook to use for my own family and to review for you. Lucky me, the Handstand ladies found us first! ...
El Día de los Niños/El Día de los Libros + Giveaway
Congratulations to the winner: Donna Hunt! Thanks for all who entered. Growing up, I definitely remember celebrating El Día del Niño. I don’t particularly remember the date of this celebration, but that’s probably because it takes place on a different date in each of the Latin American countries I lived in as a child – Perú, México and Argentina. I do remember, however; that it was “our” day and everything revolved around us, just like when everything revolves around mamiRead More ...
