Iconic British illustrator, Quentin Blake, just published a new Spanish/English bilingual book that is adorable for its simplicity: Ten Frogs/Diez Ranas.
It is simply a book about counting in English and Spanish with his beautiful illustrations of animals.
The book is completely unpretentious and reads like a piece of art. I recommend it for parents with babies who can sit in front of the book and just be mesmerized by the animal illustrations; for bilingual toddlers who are learning to count; as well as for budding readers who can practice their reading in both languages with short sentences, numbers and good visuals to support them.
It´s also great for those non-native speakers who might want to learn how some of these animals are called in either language:
- Crow/Cuervo
- Goats/Cabras
- Fish/Peces
- Chickens/Gallinas
- Mice/Ratones
- Frogs/Ranas
- Sparrows/Gorriones
- Wasps/Avispas

We just recently adopted our two and a half year old daughter from Colombia, so at the same time that we are trying to help her learn English, we are learning more and more Spanish. I’ve been studying it for a year, but my husband hasn’t been able to. Bilingual books are very helpful and important in our family! This would be a great addition to our small but growing collection!
I am already an email subscriber.
I want this book because I am trying to make sure I raise my daughters bilingual, and I see this as a HUGE resource to doing so.

I want my baby to speak Spanish.
My 3yr old and 20 month old love bilingual books. Ten Frogs/Diez ranas would be a great addition to there library; a book that encompasses there love for animals and learning to count.

I would like this book because it would be a great resource tool to sit with my children and read together and learn together.
I want this book to add to our home library as we hardly have any Spanish books for the kids. We sign them out of the public library. I don;t think we read to them enough in Spanish (plenty of English reading though) so any book, especially cute ones, would help. It seems harder to entice her to choose a book in French and Spanish.

I would like my son to learn how to speak Spanish. I never liked it in High School, but if he gets a early start, it might be easier

Why do I want this book? Well, before my first daughter was born, I decided I’d raise her bilingual. But I chickened out, worrying that I might teach her incorrectly since spanish is a second language for me. I want this book to give me motivation to teach my now 3 1/2 year old spanish.

This looks way cuter than the books I keep checking out from the library. We need some variation. But I’d love to see Celeste (above) win it. Celeste– Glad you checked out Spanglishbaby. I love it!
We are a little family of foreigners living in Australia. Our two-year old son (El Rubio) is the only real Aussie amongst us. I’m English and my partner is Argentinian. My partner only speaks to ER in Spanish but I worry it’s not enough. I’m very happy to find this website.
This book looks perfect not least because we are just starting numbers counting the stairs every time we go up and down in our house. Me in English and Alexis in Spanish.
Not to mention the fact that I grew up on Roald Dahl and these are the illustrations of my childhood. I would be so happy to own it for ER.
Oh just noticed this competition is closed! Well I have subscribed anyway!
