When I was a child I loved watching Sesame Street, and was quite excited when given the opportunity to review Elmo’s A to Zoo Adventure, the videogame. I loved it! The graphics are great, and the games are fun and educational! The games are designedo be played by young children, but the difficulty level adapts to the child’s ability. The games become more challenging as the player’s skills develop. The audio and visual directions are easy for children to follow, and students learn while playing and having fun.
Once I installed the game on my computer, my son was ready to play! The games can be played in the story mode which guides the player through the zoo, but the child can also choose the individual games that they want to play. In this mode, the games are arranged in different habitats within the zoo.
The games were fun and appealed to my three year old son. The popular Sesame Street characters Elmo and Zoe give the directions and guide the play. I particularly liked the educational aspect of the games. The skills practiced ranged from letter identification, the learning of upper and lower case letters, practicing the sounds of letters and even the formation of words. The games also targeted skills such as rhyming, color, and shape identification.
I was impressed by the variety of different activities. There are seventeen different games to entertain and challenge your child. My son and I enjoyed playing and learning together. It was the first time for us to play a videogame, and we really enjoyed the different activities in the zoo that we played with the help of Elmo and Zoe.
My only disappointment with this videogame is that it did not have a Spanish language tract. In spite of the game being in English, my son and I did enjoy playing together. I am also happy that he had a chance to practice some of the concepts he is learning in pre-school. The videogame is available in Wii, Nintendo DS, and PC formats.
