Happy 2010 to all of you! After a much needed break, SpanglishBaby is back in full force! Since we’re starting a new decade and will be celebrating our first anniversary next month, we’ve decided to make a few changes to our growing online community. Although we’ll reveal most of them at a later time, we are at this time announcing our call for monthly paid contributors.
What we’re looking for:
Whether you’ve been following us since we published our first article or you just stumbled upon our site a few days ago, you should know the main idea behind SpanglishBaby is to create a community where those of us who are raising bilingual + bicultural children can share our trials and tribulations – as well as our successes, of course – and thus learn from each other.
With that in mind, we’re looking for other bloggers writers who’d be interested in writing about their experiences raising bilingual + bicultural kids once a month. Whether you’re using the OPOL method, your children attend a language immersion school, or you keep our Latin culture alive through your delicious recipes, we’d love to have you be a part of our family. More than anything, we’re hoping the articles are personal, useful and fun.
We don’t really have any particular topics we’d like you to write about, we’re pretty flexible and open to your ideas, although we would like for one of the contributors to have older children – at least kids in elementary school. It’d also be great if we could get a father’s point of view…
This will be a great way for you to get exposed to our growing audience as well as to get traffic back to your own site. Your profile and links to your personal blogs will be included in our special Contributors page.
What you need to do:
If you’re interested, please send us the following by Friday, January 29th to madre (at) spanglishbaby (dot) com:
- A post between 500 and 1000 words.
- A photo (or more) to go with the post.
- A short bio with a link to your site.
- If you’d like to write about a specif topic, please let us know.
We will choose FOUR paid contributors who can commit to writing a minimum of once post a month. As soon as Ana Lilian and I make a decision, we’ll be in touch with you. Thanks so much for your interest and please feel free to let us know if you have any questions. We can’t wait to hopefully welcome you to our SpanglishBaby family!
I will surely be putting something together – hoping you amigas find it useful for your community of readers! Here’s to a fantastic 2010!

I would love to put something too, but my baby is only 20 months old and I don’t think there would be any great experiences about our bilingual family, but I was thinking maybe my husband could write something and see how does he feel being part of bilingual family and how he thinks we are doing.
I have three kids (6 1/2, 4 1/2 and almost 2) and we are a bilingual Spanish/English family. I have been looking for online resources since we began this journey almost 7 years ago and was delighted when you started up. I do not have a blog, but would be willing to write articles if you have something you are looking for more input on. 6 1/2 years in I appreciate how much it helps to hear from others.
saludos,
Maria H
I am interested in this… Hijole, Deveras que si!…I am a stay-at-home mom of two kids. My son just turned 2 and my daughter is almost 4. I only speak Spanish to them, and my husband English only. Yes, he is a gringou and I’m a very spicy Mexican gal. He is a civil engineer and I’m an artist. Coming from very different backgrounds, our household is never the boring one on the block. My husband and I disagree about a lot of issues when it comes to the kids…but at the end of the day, we are a family of a mixture of personalities, tastes, and temperaments…who love each other very much. did I say who has the spiciest blood? I do not have a blog, I only have time for Facebook (sometimes, and thanks to the iphone) and twitter (almost never). I think I could handle the once-a-month commitment to share our experiences with the other readers…I certainly see myself being one of your contributors.
Hola…wow! This is such a great idea…I have two sons and a step daughter. We are all from Puerto Rico and my sons and husband have been in Texas for almost 10 years now. My stepdaughter comes every so often and lives in Florida. My kids came here when they were 3 and 5….now, oh my gosh! they are 12 and 16! All of them speak fluently both Spanish and English…and we all love to cook. I have a small restaurant – a Latin Fusion – so I’ll be sure to add some recipes here and there. I’ll marked it in my calendar to post something by the 29th.
Yay! What a great idea ladies…and proof that this site is a win-win for everybody!
Good luck future writers!

Thanks to all for your interest! We have already received several submissions and can’t wait for the ones that will be coming in the weeks ahead. Please remember the deadline is Jan. 29th.
Also, I wanted to clarify that you don’t have to have a blog to become a SB contributor – I just fixed that part in the post above. We just thought you’d like to know that if you do have a blog, becoming a contributor will be a great way to promote it!
Great idea. Have you considered having contributors who write in Spanish? Since this is a blog called SpaniglishBaby, it would be great to have access to Spanish posts as well.
Thanks for a great blog!

I stumbled across this sight today while searching for bilingual books and I must say it is nice to have somewhere to go to express concerns ,or ask questions and get answers to them. My husband is bilingual and I speak english. We have 6 kids ages 8,5,3,3, 23 months, and 4 months. We try very hard to incorporate both cultures/languages into everything we do. We celebrate the holidays in both cultures. We eat both styles of food. It isnt easy but I would absolutely love to contribute whatever I can.
I will love to be the first guy writing something about kids. I teach for the YMCA so i have to deal/handle with a least the same 40 kids for a week and its a very interesting experience; that I personally take and believe its making me a better person one child at a time. SO feel free to get in touch when you can and I will be sending the info on the 29th Thanks…Gracias
I am the mother of…. listos? Ocho! I have four boys and four girls. Three of my boys are now teenagers, two girls are pre-teens, one boy is 8 and the other two girls are toddlers! I also homeschool my children. I have kept a diary, which I call just that, “A Mother’s Diary” and I would love to shae this with you all. Life with such a big family can be quite a challenge…. sometimes I feel I could send videos to America’s Funniest Videos worth a whole month! And sometimes I feel we could use the Super Nanny here! My only problem…. I don’t have a website… yet. Maybe by the 29th, las veo!

Hello there! I know this is kinda off topic however I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in exchanging links or maybe guest authoring a blog article or vice-versa? My blog discusses a lot of the same subjects as yours and I think we could greatly benefit from each other. If you happen to be interested feel free to shoot me an email. I look forward to hearing from you! Superb blog by the way!
Thank you so much for providing individuals with such a splendid possiblity to read critical reviews from this web site. It’s always very pleasing and stuffed with a lot of fun for me personally and my office peers to search your blog no less than 3 times in a week to learn the new items you have. And definitely, I am just always contented with all the fantastic pointers served by you. Some 4 points in this article are in truth the most beneficial I’ve had.
