When I was young, and still lived back in Peru, whenever anyone in my family traveled to the United States, I used to ask for two things: bags of Kit Kat and teen magazines. My love for these delicious chocolate wafers only grew once we moved to Miami and I could get my fill as often as I pleased.
I think the main reason why I love Kit Kat so much is because they’re not super sweet or full of competing flavors… and it looks as if I’ve passed on my addiction to my own kids. When I heard Walmart would start selling the brand new Kit Kat Minis today, May 4, I knew I wanted to check them out. So I accepted a sample of them, and I had to hide them from my children immediately or they would’ve devoured them in a heartbeat. The fact that they’re bite size makes them totally poppable and perfect for a break — which is what Kit Kat has always been know for.
That’s why together with the samples of Kit Kat Minis, I also got the small white bucket you see in the picture above and I was asked to visit Walmart and fill it with a few products to create a “Break Time On the Go Kit.” As you can see, in addition to the bag of Kit Kat Minis, I got a LIFE magazine titled “Paradise Found: 100 Places Beautiful Beyond Belief” because I love to dream that I’m actually taking my break in one of these amazing places!
I also got a gem of a CD. It’s called “Encanto” and it’s by renown Brazilian musician Sérgio Mendes with guest singers like Juanes, Fergie, will.i.am and Natalie Cole, among others. This is the kind of music that transports you to a warm, fun place and makes you want to get up and dance!
Finally, I added a travel size hand lotion so that I can always remember to moisturize my hands, which in Colorado is imperative due to the extreme dryness.
I invite you to go ahead and put together your own break time kit and make sure to include some Kit Kat Minis… because every mami deserves a break!

I see that this site likes to take down comments with which it does not agree. In my previous comment, I stated that product placements on this blog detract from its mission: to provide resources and education for parents wishing to raise bilingual children.
I re-iterate that statement here. Disney, Kit Kat, Huggies…the list goes on. Collecting the ad dollars from companies craving a slice of the Latino purchasing power seems disingenuous when so much more valuable content on bilingualism can be supplied by the site’s contributors. What a wasted opportunity.
SpanglishBaby can keep deleting comments from its readers, but in so doing, it shows that it’s not really that open to a dialogue of diverse opinions. Rather, it only wants commentary from readers that agree with its viewpoint and don’t mind being barraged by corporate product placement.
