As a tutor and someone who learned Spanish en la escuela, I have encountered many methods of presenting new vocabulary. The search for effective Spanish materials for young children can be a grueling one.
Julie and Krisse, sisters and creators of the Kids Love Spanish DVD series, have come to our rescue with this set of entertaining lessons organized by theme and intended for children ages 1-8. With topics like family, food, and animals, the lessons present relevant vocabulary, regardless of difficulty. For those of us who have seen the benefits of verbally challenging our niños, this is refreshing. The best thing about these DVDs is that they are each just a half hour long – a manageable length for even the youngest aspirant bilinguals. You can fit them in around your daily schedule (pop one in while you’re making dinner or before bed).
Kids Love Spanish succeeds in providing enough repetition and does not overwhelm the viewer with information. An array of moms, dads, and little ones pronounce the words over and over, accompanied by exciting, diverse visuals.
Each DVD begins and ends with the “Kids Love Spanish” song: a catchy way of explaining the importance of learning Spanish. Given that dancing to esta linda canción was my son’s favorite part, I am excited about the forthcoming Kids Love Spanish music CD. The song’s message and the many children featured in the DVDs are particularly valuable for reinforcing widespread usage of Spanish with kids who might be reluctant to start or continue speaking it outside the home.
Although the single word focus introduces little linguistic context, which could be valuable for children who are already familiar with basic vocabulary, these DVDs achieve their aim of giving English speakers a command of introductory Spanish. In each DVD, Julie and Krisse define the Spanish words by placing them in English sentences; this is most helpful for children at the higher end of the suggested age bracket because they are most likely to inquire about meaning and need English as a reference.
Whether your family is just beginning to learn Spanish or has a command of the language, Kids Love Spanish can be a great supplement to your efforts. You can order just one volume at a time or try out the whole 7-DVD set. Visit their informative website or La Tiendita to get your copy.

I elarned that Sisters Krisse Brock Kelly and Julie Brock Campbell grew up in Southern California in El Centro.
I learned that both sisters (Julie and Krisse) took Spanish throughout high school, but perfected their Spanish once they studied abroad in Guadalajara, Mexico. I also learned that “Children who learn a second language typically have better problem solving abilities, better reasoning skills, and are more creative.”
The biggest problem with my Spanish is my accent. I read that “Studies have shown, and experience has supported, that children who learn a language before the onset of adolescence are much more likely to have a native-like pronunciation.”
I speak lots of Spanish to my granddaughter and tril the r’s like crazy to make sure she has that down.

Way cool website! I am sorry to admit that I didn’t know you had activity sheets to download and access to great books and videos. Way to go, girls!
I am bi-lingual, having learned both Spanish and Portuguese in Mexico and Brazil respectively. These 2 young women speak clearly and well.
One additional benefit of learning a foreign language is that it makes it much easier to learn yet another language later if it is needed for business or any other reason. It prepares or conditions the mind to process a new language more easily. Furthermore, it also makes it easier to learn a new subject where the vocabulary might be very complex such as in a technical area.
I felt it was very important for my sons to all learn a foreign language and they all speak Spanish well. One also studied a little Russian.
these women do good work.
I learned that this DVD set includes all seven of the Kids Love Spanish DVDs. It’s a better value than buying all seven DVDs separately. This set includes Volumes 1-7: Basic Words, Alphabet & Numbers, Family, Food, Colors & Shapes, Animals, and Basic Phrases. This set is both fun and educational for children of all ages! Recommended for ages 1-8+

This single word approach seems to accomodate that

This is a very good series – I know of similar products on the market, and this may be the best. One young Hispanic mother told me recently that her youngster watches one hour of “Kids love Spanish” every day, and it has really helped in the over-all development of the child, as well as improving her languange skills. It is a good investment for any young family wanting to offer their child a well-rounded education.
the website has practice pages also
I purchased the DVD’s four years ago so all three of my children have had a chance to enjoy them! They are simple for the children to understand, the music is catchy and there is plenty to watch for entertainment! We need a part two
I learned that these two sisters are really good communicators. Bob
I know this product is designed for kids between 1-8 but I have a feeling that I could really use these sets to learn some spanish myself.
Watching the “Kids Love Spanish” DVDs has become a family activity. We watch them with our kids and then we speak Spanish together. It is amazing how quickly our kids have caught on to speaking Spanish.

I learned “Children who learn a second language typically have better problem solving abilities, better reasoning skills, and are more creative.”
I visited the site and learned that between the ages of 0 and 10 years old, children’s brains are geared towards language development. They can learn as many spoken languages as you allow them to hear systematically and regularly. I happen to know that these statements are true, having learned Spanish since I was a toddler. I think Kids Love Spanish will provide excellent results for parents who would like their kids to learn Spanish and really understand it.

Being a 1st grade teacher I know the importance of raising children in a well adapted environment and allowing them to broaden their horizons through a second language. Kids Love Spanish is an energetic, creative, and educational DVD series that allows kids to find the fun in learning a second language. I LOVE IT!!!!
We love the videos! Our children immediately stop what they are doing after I pop in the DVD and they hear the opening song sung so beautifully by the Brock sisters. Their energy and knowledge of Spanish is infectious and appealing to so many ages. My children have so much fun while learning a new language.
I learned exposure to a 2nd language enhances a child’s reading ability. Thanks for running this great contest!

I learned that both sisters took Spanish in high school but didn’t perfect their language skills until they went to Mexico (this is similar to immersion – you HAVE to use the language to get along). I think DVD’s are a great way to learn a language because it’s been proven that visuals help memory!

I learned that bilingual children have better opportunities than children who only know one language
I learned that children who have been exposed to a foreign language at an early age, often learn to read faster and with greater ease because they are able to recognize the relationship between letters and their sounds without the help of visual objects. Exposure to a second language clearly benefits children’s reading abilities.
