As my boys get older, they’re more into books, elaborate building sets and Mama’s iPad, and have outgrown the babyish Spanish-“speaking” toys of old. That’s why I liked Ingenio’s Sounds Amazing cards. There are fifty double-sided flashcards, grouped into categories (our favorites were Transportation and Musical Instruments), which include a picture of an object (such as an ambulance), information about the object in English and in Spanish, and a bar code. Scan the bar code with the included wand, and you get a fun noise, like an ambulance siren.
Interestingly, if anything, I had a couple of minor quibbles with the English on the cards, but I absolutely loved that the Spanish text was elegant and the vocabulary very rich, which has not been my experience with this kind of toy in the past. (Quick: Butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle in Spanish, anyone?)
The cards are on the thinner side so I wouldn’t give them to a toddler, but older preschoolers should have a lot of fun with these. I know my kindergartners are—the novelty factor of scanning the bar code just like at the grocery store won them over. An extra bonus is that the stack of cards isn’t bulky at all. The cards and the wand fit nicely in a pencil box, and we’ll be taking these on the road with us and enjoying them over the holidays.

I’d like to win because I’m a first grade teacher at a bilingual school in Spain. Hearingy Lisa make strides in s second language is s beautiful reward for the long hours and endless amounts of patience, so I live being able to surprise them with fun language games.
My daughter is in a Spanish immersion class although we don’t know Spanish at home. She loves to scan anything and often plays store and library by pretending to scan all the bar codes. I think she would love this and it would be very educational at the same time.

I would like to have these fantastic games for my kids to keep teaching spanish.
I would like to win because i can never find any spanish speaking friends wherever we move (which is often being in the navy). My kids need exposure from as many sources ax possible. And we need some toys that speak correct spanish and are made with native speakers in mind(maybe have a native speaker do the voice and offer toys that go beyond basics of counting and abc)
I would love these toys to complement the spanish lessons I’m giving to my preschooler.
