Yesterday we talked about how important it is to keep your child’s mind active over the summer months. While there are many ways that you can keep kids busy right at home – one popular option is summer camp. Summer camps range from free and inexpensive to costly; some are sleep away camps and others are day or half-day camps. You can choose a local camp or one as far away as Costa Rica or Spain.
To keep your bilingual child’s mind growing over the summer, today we’ll introduce you to Spanish language learning summer camps. Language learning summer camps focus on teaching or immersing children in a second language, and most of these camps even make it a cultural experience as well. Below we’ve provided a mix of Spanish language learning summer camps across the nation and beyond, as well as resources to find camps that teach other languages if none of these fit your needs.
Tip: If you fall in love with a camp outside your home state, consider sending your child to stay with relatives who live in the area while they attend. What could be better than summer camp and getting to spend a week with the abuelos, tíos or primos?

Sorry I didn’t get a chance to respond yesterday, but I can add one to the Texas list. I’ve got my kids signed up for a few days in July at Spanish Schoolhouse. They have several programs now mostly in the Dallas area.

My friend Judi Pasternac recently started Mis Amigos Languages in Coral Gables, FL where she offers classes in Spanish from babies to older children. My daughter did her Spring Break camp there and had a great time. They just started Summer Camp this week. Great staff, nice location. Definitely recommend!

Lesson are 30′ for the 4 to 6 y/o class and 45′ for 7 and up. Our classes are small 2 to 5 participants. The classes are live online.

Jardín de Niños Interlingua offers spanish immersion summer camps in Austin. They are great! I wish they offered high school credit immersion camps, but they concentrate on the younger kids.
The link for WishWish in Charlottesville is broken, and looking at the WishWish site, it looks like it’s not an actual organization that is running a camp, but some sort of gift card thing. This doesn’t make me comfortable.

My daughter attends The International School, and the teachers are fantastic. One of her teachers is giving a week long camp at the Speak Language Center, so we’ll also be attending that and I couldn’t recommend the teacher who’ll be running the camp highly enough (“Vamos de Vacaciones”).

Regarding the camp, our dilemma is in setting up our son for a full month camp. We are given the option to enroll him for a week, two weeks etc, or for a full or half day program. Feedback from anyone on this school would be wonderful, or even feedback in general regarding an experience in such a camp would be helpful in our decision. Thanks!
