El Perro y El Gato is a cartoon series featured on HBO Latino. I have also found many episodes of this popular show on-line. My sons and their cousins love it! The bilingual series features a laid back cat and an energetic dog who embark on various adventures together. The cartoon series presents lessons such as sharing and personal hygiene in a fun and bilingual manner.
I was thrilled to learn that these characters are now featured in their own line of books. Currently four books are available that present a birthday celebration, a trip to a farm, playing in snow, and a visit to the doctor. The illustrations in these books are amazing! They are colorful and bright which attracts the young reader, and the fact that they are bilingual makes them appealing to both bilingual families and those learning Spanish or English.
These are currently my sons’ favorite books. Last night while reading the books, my older son wanted to play the role of the cat. He loved imitating the relaxed attitude of the cat when reading his section. The stories are short enough to hold the attention of my one-year-old, but provide enough narrative to engage my three year old. T
hey are well written and fun, and will fascinate your child. Whether you use these books in conjunction with the cartoon series, or on their own, they are sure to become favorites in your home. Want one? You can win a set here, or find them at the HBO shop in New York City and www.HBO.com/store.
