School No. 50 has adopted a Dual Language Program along with the High/Scope Approach to Early Childhood Education. The Dual Language Program offers children the opportunity to cultivate friendships among the various ethnic groups represented in the school community. It offers children a chance to acquire a second language (English/Spanish) through meaningful interaction with English and Spanish speaking peers and staff. It also enables native Spanish speakers to maintain and reinforce their heritage, language, and culture. Students learning through two languages in a Dual Language setting can benefit from each other. They learn to value each other’s knowledge and life experiences – leading to meaningful respect and collaboration that will last a lifetime.
