Los Angeles Leadership Primary Academy’s Dual Language Immersion Program combines the most successful features of foreign language instruction and bilingual education by providing both English-speaking students and Spanish-speaking students the opportunity to acquire fluency in two languages. The program begins with 90% of the instruction in Spanish and 10% in English. By fourth grade, the program is 50% Spanish and 50% English.
English-speaking students are immersed in Spanish within a supportive environment. Specially designed lessons incorporate optimal learning strategies that make the instruction comprehensible. Students learn to communicate with their teachers who serve as their language models.
Spanish-speaking students develop their primary language skills and receive English instruction through their English Language Development program.
The opportunity for interaction among students accelerates language growth in Spanish and English and enhances cross-cultural understanding for all the students. The Dual Immersion Program encourages natural and authentic second language development.
