My almost 4-year-old daughter, Vanessa, is ahead of her time. Last year, she discovered her older brother’s 2-disc DVD collector’s edition of Toy Story 1 and 2 and immediately became addicted to them. These movies have been favorites at my house ever since I can remember because they became popular during the time my stepson was a small boy.
First, Vanessa fell in love with Woody and soon thereafter, with Buzz. So much so that she asked for the theme of her 3rd birthday party to be Toy Story. Unfortunately, for me, this was last year, so it was virtually impossible to find any kind of birthday decorations related to Toy Story. Por suerte, I was able to find a bunch of Buzz birthday decorations online and I promptly ordered everything I could get my hands on to make my daughter happy. (Check out the picture above). Some of our guests thought it was kind of odd that she’d chosen this theme since they considered the Toy Story movies to be kind of old but, like I said, my daughter is ahead of her time.
When I found out Toy Story 3 was coming out, I immediately shared the news with Vanessa and she started counting the days! We talked about it all the time and as we started seeing all the toys and trinkets related to the new movie everywhere we went, she got even more excited. My husband and I took her to see the movie the minute it came out and I must say she was in heaven.
Imagine her surprise when we received a Spanish Buzz to review last week. She just couldn’t believe her luck! When she turned it on, she couldn’t contain her happiness when she found out he spoke Spanish! Check out what she has to say about “El Buzzo”:

Roxana, she’s absolutely beautiful! I’m so jealous at how well she speaks Spanish…really wish I could get there with my girl. I’m trying my best.
I love the Spanish Buzz. After we saw the movie, as the credits were rolling and we were getting up to leave the theater, my girl did the Buzz pose and said “Al rescate!” I can only imagine how cool this toy will be for her and our future bilingual baby.

Pixar – We loved Toy Story 3 and El Buzzo was a highlight! What a clever idea – Buzz goes into Spanish mode (just like several toys in our house have Spanish mode!) The kids don’t always understand, but exposure to the sounds and rhythm of Spanish really count.

Me encanta!!!! My son would LOVE it, the fact that there’s English and Spanish in the movie like at home is a great example for him and monolingual kids being exposed (and maybe excited!) to another language is fantastic.
Plus Pixar movies are amazing!

ADORO the idea of a Spanish Buzz! It’s Disney’s greatest idea! My oldest son, who is now 18, was only 4 when the first Toy Story came out…. and he’s not ashamed to say he’s as excited as his little 3 year-old sister about the newest Toy Story. Thank you, Disney, for realizing that there are lots and lots of bilingual children who excitedly watch something they can relate to!

I love how Vanessa said Buzz “habla dos idiomas como yo”
Roxanna, esta hermosa tu hijita!! My daughter is 4 and loved Toy Story 3 as well – I may have to get her El Buzzo to keep up her Spanish and show that speaking two languages is cool now that she will be starting preschool this fall
We saw Toy Story 3 over a week ago and my children were SO DELIGHTED when Buzz got switched into Spanish mode. But that was nothing compared to when Buzz started flamenco dancing to the Gypsy Kings, a group that has been a family favorite and one my children instantly recognize.
Thank you, Pixar, for reflecting my children’s bilingual interests and showing them it is okay to grow up bilingual and bicultural, as well as to appreciate global diversity. You have motivated them to continue their second language learning.
I hope you will continue to create characters that positively reflect modern Hispanic American families and celebreate (non-stereotypic) cultural diversity.
(If you need ideas for storylines, I have plenty!)

I want to tell the company gracias for doing something in Spanish!
Oh, my God…! I am SO impressed with her Spanish…she’s beautiful!
Would love to have a Spanish buzz for my 4 year old girl for 2 reasons: It speaks Spanish, of course, and I love the music it has — not to mention those cool moves!
Thanks for letting us know about this Spanish Buzz — we need MORE toys in Spanish…
Angelica
PIXAR, my children love to watch your movies in Spanish. The addition of spanish toys will be VERY appealing for us parents who raise bilingual children.

I tweeted the giveaway from @MauraHernandez – Loved the video of Vanessa – cutest thing I’ve ever seen! My goddaughter adores Buzz & is a Spanish-speaker first & would freak if I won & sent it to her as a gift!
I’m also an email subscriber Love me some SpanglishBaby!
We love Buzz around here. Did you all know the dvd movies have Spanish language tracks so you can watch them in Spanish? My children are obsessed with TS2 because it is the only one *I* have with the Spanish language track. Course, TS1 the blue-ray is the only one I can find with a Spanish language track, but of course I don’t have a blue-ray player.
My children were also thrilled during the movie when Buzz started speaking Spanish.
Pixar: smart move on your part. It is a favorite part.
I am returning the English Buzz and getting a Spanish Buzz ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m ecstatic to see the plethora of responses that voice our thousand praises of bilingual toys. My son has only seen clips of Toy Story 3 (as we’re planning to see it as an upcoming family night) and has started identifying the characters everywhere. Buzz stands out to me as a toy to invest in because he is bilingual whereas I might not otherwise buy a toy. Also it is refreshing and invigorating to trust Pixar/Disney that Buzz is quality AND bilingual, not a compromise just because parents (and bilingual teachers) are desperate to get their hands on anything and everything that is Spanish or bilingual. I love that Buzz isn’t just a toy with a switch to turn his words into another language, but that he is a real character with a Spanish personality. Brilliant!

Love this! Thanks, Disney Pixar, for creating a bilingual toy! Great exposure for second language learning
We just saw the movie and my son loves Buzz! He has been trying to dance el paso doble and imitate Buzz’s moves. He would absolutely LOVE this awesome bilingual toy. Great giveaway. Gracias!!

El Buzz! How exciting! Up until now most of the bilingual toys were either non-descript or Diego and Dora….but now a mainstream easily recognizable toy is bi-lingual!!! Yeah!
Los ninos at my house are entralled! We already have a few Buzzes from previous movies- but now my 6 year old son wants to get the one that speaks Espanol Mami!
Pixar is always ahead of the curve!
That is a super cute video!!! I can never get my kids to perform on camera. But Lexi doesn’t recognize Vanessa – it’s been so long since we’ve seen you . I love that El Buzzo speaks Spanish- he was hilarious in the movie. It is great to see more culture demonstrated in popular shows and movies.
I subscribe to the email/rss feed.
My husband and son absolutely loved the Spanish Buzz. It was brilliant!
We are subscribed by e-mail. Thank you for all of the great posts!
I have to say, I pretty much never buy toys with a movie character tie-in, but on the same day that my kids came home from the movie theater raving about how Buzz speaks Spanish, I saw this post – clearly, this was meant to catch my attention! We love to find Spanish-speaking toys wherever we can (they seem to be few and far between), so thanks to Pixar for putting this Buzz out there.

Disney-Pixar,I was so excited when I heard Buzz spoke Spanish in the movie, it was a big selling point for my 13 year old who wanted to assure her ticket once the movie came out. She knows that I her mother is obsessed with anything that gives them an opportunity to emerge themselves in the Spanish language. I have to admit that I will always love Woody, but the new bilingual Buzz has me wanting mas!!! and I hope that he speaks Spanish Forever!!!
Love the Spanish Buzz….it helps to teach kids both English & Spanish! I wish more products were like this one
