What a great discovery we have made! Cricket Publishers have just launched their Ladybug Magazine in Spanish! Ladybug en español is designed for children ages 3 to 6, perfect for my two oldest sons, who are beginning to or are already reading in Spanish. Our boys still need guidance when reading in their second language, and we found that Ladybug is perfect for us to continue to read aloud en español.
While reading Ladybug to my oldest, the illustrations caught my eye and reminded me of the old books my mom had of cuentitos when I was a child. The short stories are sweet and the ones with more text are rich and engaging. My oldest read the “easier” ones aloud and I read the others to both boys. Then, as I was scrolling down on my laptop, we also discovered poems, games and music sheets! My little piano player wanted to give it a try but the music was a bit advanced (so he set a goal for himself!).
I look for children’s literary magazines that have all the components I need for ideal reading instruction. It hasn’t been easy to find something like this in Spanish, for this specific age group, until now. The magazine is well-rounded, giving me an opportunity to point out vocabulary, comprehension, spelling and most importantly, to motivate my boys to continue their practice of a second language. Bonus points to Ladybug en español for offering a digital version of the magazine for kids, like my boys, who LOVE the iPad.
Visit CricketMag.com to order your subscription of Ladybug en español. The yearly subscription for the digital version is $17.99 and the printed version is $33.95. You can also download individual issues via the iPad app. I believe that if Spanish is something you are working on hard in your home or classroom, this is totally worth it! I’m so thankful to my mother for providing Spanish literature to me when I was a child. Because I have the resources available to me, I hope one day my sons will be able to do the same with their children.
The Giveaway!
We are giving away a one year subscription of both the digital AND print publication of Ladybug en español to THREE lucky winners! Just leave us a comment telling us why you would love to read Ladybug en Español with your kids. Then enter the rafflecopter below.
I would love to have the print publication because that would make easier our reading at night and they can enhance their spanish vocabulary.
I would love to have Ladybug in Espanol, because it’s another Spanish resource for my son! It also brings back memories for me of reading Ladybug magazine with my Mom as a kid!
This is great!! We randomly received it in English and I thought it would be amazing if they did it in Spanish….and now they do!!! My oldest is going to start Kindergarten and it would be great for him to read:)
I receive the SpanglishBaby Newsletter!
Me encantaría ganar esta revista para mis hijas.
Muchas gracias por darnos esta informacion tan valiosa. Siempre es un placer encontrar estos tesoros.
I would love to read Ladybug in Spanish with my little boy! He loves to listen to books, stories, songs, etc in Spanish and is just starting to recognize letters and sounds.
I already subscribe to Spanglish Baby’s newsletter!
I have been searching for great Spanish resources to read to my kids! Too much of what I find is too hard for them to understand and they lose interest. Ladybug in Spanish looks to be just right.
When my baby graduated from Baby Bug, we were happy to discover Ladybug. We love Ladybug! Our library carries it, we sign out 4 at a time. With it being in Spanish it will be invaluable to our bilingual home. There is no other Spanish magazine that I have found for pre-school/kindergarten age. I will be recommending this to our local library to purchase. They already carry Iguana, which is for older kids.
I would love the opportunity to win a subscription for my daughter. Currently as a mix heritage child my daughter and all latin children find it hard identifying themselves in mainstream literature… I am hoping having a subscription like this will allow her to see how wonderful her culture and the language is.
Thank you.
I would love this magazine for my 6 year. She is always asking what does this say in Spanish. She enjoys reading and this would enhance her spanish vocbulary. I also teach spanish nd my students are always looking for new material to read.
As soon as I discovered that Cricket magazine began publishing Babybug en español, I ordered a free digital copy that I downloaded onto my i-Pad and onto my desktop and I just love it! I would love to have Ladybug en español as my daughter grows older and to share with my older nieces and nephews.
Part of the reason I love Babybug so much is that I think the organization of the magazine keys in to the attention span of a toddler perfectly. After reading a short story, it moves on to a rhyme and then another short story, or a poem. We have even started to enjoy flpping through the magazine to look for the pictures at the end of the magazine. It really is amazing!
I would LOVE to win Ladybug in Espanol for my 3 daughters since we are about to move to an area with virtually no formal Spanish learning opportunities. We are so sad to be leaving our wonderful immersion preschool/after school classes, and I am looking for as many ways as possible to help them (and me!) to keep learning!
I would love a subscription for my Spanish class!!
I would love to win this for my 3yo son because we’re beginning to integrate bilingual literacy into his life. He’s a preschooler so it’s so important for us for him to continue the legacy of learning both languages fluently and I believe this would be an amazing resource to incorporate into his literacy.
Already subscribed.
I would love to get the print version for my girls because we speak three languages at home – English, Spanish, and Hawaiian – and this would be another wonderful way for their dad to be able to bond with them (he mainly speaks and reads Spanish) and for them to connect with part of their heritage.
I’m a SpanglishBaby newsletter subscriber!
We have a subscription to this in English and love it. I would love to have it in Spanish for my daughter especially when she will be in the Spanish Immersion program this year. I am also and email subscriber to your blog.
I would love to win a print subscription for my 3 year old through second grade classes. I love letting them hear stories in Spanish.
Me gustaría ganarme esta subscribción para mi niño pequeño, el cual está haciendo sus primeros intentos en leer español. Tengo varios libros en casa, pero no a nivel súper básico. ¡Gracias por tantos posts educativos!
I would love a subscription to LadyBug en Espanol for my 3 and 6 year old girls who attend a Spanish immersion school. I need resources to enrich Spanish literacy in our home and would be grateful to share Ladybug en Espanol with my children and the children in our school community. Thank You.
My nena loves to get mail. If she can receive Spanish children’s magazine, all the better! It will help motivate her to work on her newly acquired Spanish reading skills. It’s so hard to find affordable quality culturally enriching reading materials en Espanol!
I would love for my 5-year-old to have more opportunities to read in Spanish.
My daughter loves to read Ladybug in English and I am always looking for new things to read to her in Spanish. I can’t wait to get a subscription, and will definitely buy one if I don’t win!!
What kid doesn’t love to get something in the mail? In Spanish? Even better!
Subscribed!
Oohh! I think my daughter would love this and it would really encourage her to continue learning Spanish.
It has been a bit of a battle. My daughter is just starting to show interest in Spanish and I think this would be a great help!
We would love to read this! My daughters are starting to get reading in Spanish!
My kids love magazines, but finding anything in the kid magazines in Spanish has been a challenge there is usually one page with a few Spanish vocabulary pages. I definitely need more avenues to make Spanish familiar to them and I know the many different types of pages in magazines would do the trick, especially since they like the magazine format so much.
I’m already a subscriber but with a different email address…mera.noriega@gmail.com does that matter?
I’d love to read the babybug to my baby as it will provide a new source for learning. This will expand our horizons as we usually choose reading material and here it is provided for us. We will learn about our mundo through others eyes which fosters learning.
We are so excited to see a new spanish language magazine for kids is out. Yes, please, we would like one.
I think this will help “legitimize” Spanish in our household as a language in which my kids are expected to know how to read and write (and not simply speak), even though they don’t study it in school — especially since they are already familiar with the format of Babybug. Would love a subscription!

My daughter would love to listen to the stories in Ladybug.
I WANT this for my classroom….not sure I qualify for the giveaway though
May good luck be with you.

¡Hola! We would love a subscription. Both The Girl (5 years old) are learning Spanish together and always need new materials to read.
As a non-native Spanish speaker, I am always looking for ways to enrich my two sons’ Spanish speaking abilities and they love to read! I am also a preschool teacher and would love to try this magazine to recommend it to the parents at my school!
I am already a subscriber! Thanks!
My daughter Camila just turned three and is obsessed with books! We are running out of things to read her in Spanish since our Spanish library is pretty limited. We would love a subscription like this.
I would love to have a magazine in Spanish! Very hard to find enough Spanish materials!

New bedtime reading every month AND mail just for my daughter? What more could you ask for?!?!
I’d love to read lady bug to my daughter because she is going on 2 years old and loves story time in Español! She is already picking up certain sight words!
YES Please please please!! My niece and I would have a blast reading it together! And if not me, my sister. We want the best for our little Xochitl
I would love to win a Ladybug subscription because I am struggling to teach my son and daughter Spanish. I do not speak Spanish, but my husbands’ Abuelita was from Spain. I feel very passionately that my children need to learn Spanish as an important part of their cultural heritage. They are at a crucial age in language development and it would be very helpful to me to be able to read with them from fresh material every month. I have purchased Spanish language books and DVDs, but they are growing tired of the repetition and money is tight right now. I need a new way to hold their interest and enthusiasm. The excitement of having mail delivered just for them and then sitting together and reading aloud and looking at all of the great pictures is just what our family needs!
I just signed up for your great newsletter and ‘liked’ SpanglishBaby on Facebook!
I meant to say that I do not speak Spanish “fluently”. My children and I are learning together. I am at about a fifth grade reading level in Spanish so this would be perfect for us all!
I Would Love To Share This With My Kids, It Would Be A Great Reading Tool To Enhance Their Learning And Let Them Immerse In Spanish Language .
I’m Already A Email Subscriber!
Would love this for my children. My six year old is reading in Spanish and I am sure that we would great use out of this.
I would love this for my two girls because I want them to truly be literate in Spanish. They already love reading magazines but are only fluent in English. I feel this would help them improve their Spanish!
I subscribed to the SpanishBaby Newsletter!
I think this would be a great way to introduce magazines to my daughter
I have such a difficult time finding pre-school books in Spanish. I try to keep up with her ( she is in a dual language pre school but it is really hard! this sounds great.
I was just thinking I might need to look up a bookstore in another country to Spanish books. Thanks for the info!
How exciting! Would love to win! I’m always looking for books, magazines, and workbooks in Spanish! Gracias!
As I mentioned in one of my previous posts, last year my colleagues and I created a community outreach group (RUBilingual) in the NJ area. We are very exciting with our new project called “Read with your son/daughter in Spanish”. Having this yearly subscription would mean a lot to us and to the lovely kids participating!
I would love this magazine. I am always looking for new Spanish material for my daughter to practice reading!

Kudos!
Hello There. I found your blog using msn. This is an extremely well written article.
I will be sure to bookmark it and return to read more of your useful information. Thanks for the post.
I’ll definitely return.
Hello friends, good paragraph and pleasant urging commented
at this place, I am actually enjoying by these.
Just found out about these magazines only to find out they are no longer in publication after December of 2014. I’m so disappointed!!!! Have you found other Spanish language publications for kids?
I second Mary’s question–are there any suggestions for comparable replacements now that Cricket has stopped publishing their Spanish language magazines (including Iguana, Babybug en Espanol and Ladybug en Espanol)?
I know of only the bilingual magazines like High Five Billingue and the Scholastic titles, but my kids like the Ladybug format.
Good post. I learn something new and challenging on blogs I stumbleupon everyday.
It will always be interesting to read articles from other writers and practice something from
their web sites.
