Popsicle Sticks Calaveras are an easy activity to do with kids all ages. Calaveras are not used to scare or cause harm in fact Calaveras are a symbol of the dead coming to interact in a nice way with the living.
Let’s get started in making your own Popsicle stick Calavera! Here’s what you’ll need:
–Adhesive-Glue, Tap or Glue Dots
–Paint -White
–Tissue paper
–Accessories- Gems for decor and Wiggly Eyes
–Skeleton Head-You will need this template and some paper
–Scissors
–Popsicle sticks any size(we used mini jumbo size)
–Black marker
Follow steps 1-11 to build your calavera body with the Popsicle sticks and your adhesive.
Now it’s time to decorate your calavera body. You can paint or just decorate it as it. We painted ours with a couple coats of white acrylic paint.
Cut out your head shape from the template Make sure to size it to your Popsicle stick body. Draw an upside down heart for the nose. Draw the eyes and adhere the wiggly ones. You can make flower shapes and swirls too. Now is the time to make your calavera face fancy.
With your adhesive, adhere your calavera face to the body. Paste it in a slant for some personality. Now with tissue paper add some clothes- a dress or cape. Sky’s the limit.
All done!!! Now hang your Calavera Friend in honor of Dia De Los Muertos!

Gosh, these are so so cute Ruby. I don’t think I have time to make them this season but I will keep them in mind for next year!
I am making these crafts today with my Spanish 1 class to celebrate the Dia de los Muertos and I am so excited! I hope ours come out as nice as the examples!!!
What a wonderful craft! We are travelling to Mexico in a month and will be there for Day of the Dead. I have been introducing my family to something Mayan and/or Mexican each week and these have been the biggest hit! Thank you so much for sharing!
We’ll be making these in Spanish 1 along with some yummy pan dulce. Thank you for sharing the heart of this holiday. I’m working hard to change the perception of a skeleton for my kiddos. Thanks again
