how to make cascarones confetti filled eggs easter amiguitos conejitos craft activity

Cascarones have always been a big tradition and staple of fun when it came to celebrating Easter as a child in my Mexican family. When a confetti egg is broken over your head it is a sign of good luck. While cascarones are normally filled with confetti, flour, and other messy ingredients, I decided this year the kids could make them a little different.

We created  little bunny eggs  for each of us. This will take cracking them open to another level. Instead of just confetti, how about we find a yummy and colorful surprise inside! This is  much like our original Easter eggs found on egg hunts but with real egg shells.

Here is my take on Amigitos Conejitos: Cascarones with a modern twist!

To get started you will need:

2-White paper measuring .5×1.5 for the ears

3-a hollowed egg shell

4-tissue paper in various bright colors in .5 inch squares

5-a marker- to draw a face on your egg

6-a pencil to sketch out the ears

Let’s get started!

1- Wrap a piece of tissue around the top flat eraser this will help get a nice shape to your tissue.

2- Dip the tip in glue enough to coat just the bottom

3- Adhere it gently on to the top of your egg(at the opposite end of where your egg’s hole is.

4-Keep adding tissue until it looks nice and full

5- Sketch out a pair of ears and cut them outwith a little glue at the tips, add them directly to the egg between the tissue you just adhered.

6-   draw your conejitos face once the tissue has dried. Get creative!

 Fill them up:

You can use any small wrapped candy to fill your eggs. I used small wrapped egg chocolates, Easter grass and confetti made from leftover tissue.

Instead of using the typical Tissue to close your eggs. I used some decorative masking tape. This comes in handy for those who don’t want to participate in the fun of cracking you could always just peel away the tape and save your Bunny masterpiece!

All done! Remember to crack them open nicely, there is candy in there!

This is the perfect family activity! Let your Amiguito have its own personality.

We will be adorning our Easter dinner table with these cuties! Cracking these open will add a great end to our day!
