As many of you know, my 5-year-old daughter, Vanessa, started Kindergarten last Monday. This was a momentous milestone for everyone in our family and so my husband and I walked our firstborn the two blocks from our home to the school armed with cameras, videocameras and iPhones to capture it all.
Growing up, I went mostly to private schools which meant that my back to school photos were of me in my school uniform. In other words, pretty boring. It wasn’t until I moved to this country as a teenager that I got to wear street clothes to school. Needless to say, I was terrified because I only had a few weeks to figure out what was in at my new school so I didn’t look like a total dork – hugely important for a 14-year-old!
Vanessa and I had gone shopping for clothes the weekend before and I let her choose what she’d be wearing the first day which – surprise, surprise – was pretty much all pink! I actually love that her plaid skirt looks kind of like the ones I used to wear back in private school, except mine wasn’t as vibrant!
I took a few photos of Vanessa, but I was a bit overwhelmed by the whole situation and while I didn’t cry hysterically, I did shed a lot of some tears. My husband took tons of video and we were actually interviewed by one of the local TV stations and so now we’ll have professional footage of Vanessa’s first day of Kindergarten! You can’t beat that, right?

What a great giveaway!
I always take a picture of Jeremiah right in front our door before leaving the house. He has worn uniforms every year, this year will be the first year he wears regular clothes.
I think regular clothes makes it more stressful on kids specially as they get older, I have been lucky Jeremiah really hasn’t paid any attention to shopping for school but Im sure as the first day comes along things might change.

Hello! Yes, first day of kindergarten was a very big deal indeed. Both my daughter’s father and I were armed with video and digital cameras to capture the whole thing. I think I emailed Ana a copy of it…right?? Anyhow, it was truly a precious moment.

I also do the traditional picture in front of the house with backpack and all. But since I homeschool, I also keep a copy of the work that they do on their first day. The pictures go in a yearbook that I make on Shutterfly at the end of each year.
My kids also love that I always give them a small gift on their first day of school. I’ve done new backpacks, compasses, etc. in the past, but this year each child received their first lunchbox for picnics in the park, and some assorted school supplies.

I do not have any children of my own but my niece and nephew could be. They are the sweetest, most lovable children I have ever met, and I’m not just saying that because I’m biased. Okay, maybe a little.
Their first day of school (until they decided they were “too old” for pictures) was always documented at the front door with big smiles and brand new backpacks in tow.

I am an avid picture taker…and I take tons of photos for every event that I think is a special one in my daughter’s life….I have no pictures of myself growing up and never want her to forget those special times….she’ll look back and either thank mom for the wonderful memories or spaz out when I show them to her husband to be when they get engaged…lol (30 yrs from now of course)
Each year we have the kids stand by the front door as they are leaving for their first day of school and take their pictures. It’s fun to look back and see have they’ve grown.

Can’t believe Vanessa’s school year starts so early! How fun! My son has been asking to go to school for over a year… And he’s only 3! We’ll definitely bring our nice camera with the flash attachment and video capacity fro first days, plus we always have our phone on hand for quick emails and posts for family. Even when my hubby had his first day of graduate school, we took a pic of him at the front door with his back pack, as my family always did that for me (since I rode a bus and they weren’t always at school with me for the first day).
I walk my grandson to his class the first day and take a pix with his teacher.

Somebody’s idea to take a pic of their child walking out the door would be a great idea to take the same shot each year and compiling a video to document their growth from K-12. I saw 3 videos along these lines as an example called “Move” “Eat” and “Learn” on YouTube.

Our son isn’t in school yet but I did see this cute idea I’d like to try. You print out a sign that says which school year they’re starting and take a picture of it. Then another on their last day of school.
We take pics of the girls as we are leaving and also when they get into their classroom. It’s fun to look at these year after year. thank you!

I go crazy with the photos and videos, so on the first day of school I shoot plenty of both posed shots and candid shots as the kids get ready, eat breakfast, pack their backpacks, and get ready to go out to the bus stop. I have started doing short “interviews” right before they leave and again when they come in after that first day to see how their expectations lived up to everything they experienced that day and to find out their first impressions of their teachers, classes, new classmates, etc. I hope it’ll be a nice documentary they’ll be able to have for years to come. Thanks!

I always take a picture of my daughter on the first day of school then we put the picture in her through the years memory book.
We always start with a big breakfast, since my kids were little, we’ve had a memory book and we always take pictures on first day of school,so the memory book now holds the first day of pre-k upto this years first day of 7th and 11th grade…pictures are the only thing that freezes time.I Love Pictures…
My son isn’t old enough for school just yet, but I’m sure I’ll take a million pictures to put in his book.

I know its silly but I always take a pic of the kids in the same spot every year on the first day of school! Then I can judge how tall the kids have grown since last year as well as preserve the memory of first day of school jitters!
Take lots of pictures!!

I take pics of my little one going to the bus stop
We used to take a pic by the same tree each year. Now that we’ve moved, we take a pic near the house, and this way we can look back and see how much they changed over the years!

I WANT TO WIN THIS PLLLLLLLLLZZZZ
I am going to take a picture of my son in front of the door with his backpack on and holding his lunchbox. It’s the same picture my mom took of me when I was little, and now it’s my turn
When my sons were young we took pictures every year.
enter me thanks
We just take lots of pictures for the album ! Nothing to out of the ordinary ! =)
I started from the moment my son got out of bed. I video tapped his excitement from jumping out of bed, eating breakfast, getting dressed and putting on his brand new shoes. I think the most exciting part for him was packing his backpack just before we left home. He was so excited to go that when we got there he almost forgot to say bye to myself and my wife. It was one of the hardest days of my wife’s life, having to watch out baby walk into his first day of school.

Pictures in the driveway.
The first day I take a picture at the front door. Same spot each year.
Well the first day of school is always hectic, and its not even my kids! I Nanny/Babysit to adorable little girls, and they are almost like my own. I take them to school every morning, so for me it was pictures infront of their classroom door, and another with their teacher, infront of the door. And of course pictures infront of their cubby sections, and pictures afterschool at our favorite shindig called Orange Leaf, where they make their dream desserts!
I always take a picture of them eating their pancake breakfast, one with their backpack, and one with their first day of school outfit. We also tske.a pic in front of their school sign!
Today was my daughter’s first day of kindergarten. We brought along our camera and video recorder.

Wow; you guys already started school? That’s early! My Not-So-Bebe-Girl Autumn goes off to college this Thursday (which will leave me in the same tears as you were in on that first day of kindergarten – the years fly, so enjoy all of the wonderful moments while they’re here), and my Bebe Boy doesn’t start until the 22nd, which is earlier than the public schools, but NOT as early as you! I have a 27, 22, 18, and 11 year old, and I documented them all differently – I’ve done voice recordings of how they felt after their first day of school, had them draw pictures of how they felt about that first day of school, and, of course, did the camera and pictures. The youngest even has a video of his first day of school!
Your bebe girl is adorable – such a girly girl!
Thanks for the chance to win!

Unfortunately I never took pics of my kids on their first days of school because I was always in such a hurry, just making it in time! I did email the family and let them know about it
