“Each year we visit the Christmas tree in Old Town Pasadena. It always delights the girls. I like the way we are all reflected in the globe in this picture (Lulu’s in the Moby), washed in the red light of Christmas. Feliz Navidad!”

“I am starting new, multicultural Christmas traditions with my newly blended family this year. The photo is of my stepdaughters and son – Amalia, Yahaira e Isaías – enjoying chocolate caliente in front of the tree. Each of them will get to have multiple celebrations in multiple houses (and languages)!”

“When I was little, my mother always made cookies around Christmas time. Decorating the sugar cookies with my sisters is an especially happy memory. Now grown with our own children, we carry on the tradition by getting together a week or two before Christmas to make and decorate cookies as a family… Since my husband is Salvadoran and I’ve been immersed in Latin American culture, I also make tamales this time of year. I learned about “tamaladas” — (when families get together for the holidays to make tamales) – and it made me feel a little lonely making my tamales all by myself — but then I realized that our cookie tradition is really similar. I’ve started calling them “galletadas.”

For me the holidays are about spending time with family and participating in traditions together. There is the visit to Santa, sled riding with all of our cousins, midnight mass on Christmas eve, and Christmas dinner at my aunt and uncles’ home with all of our relatives.

“We love to visit and admire various famous Christmas trees around town. One we never miss is our favorite, the Christmas tree on Main Street, Disneyland.”

“When the holidays are near, I like to sit and create holiday crafts with the kids. It makes us get in the holiday spirit as well as spending quality time together. I hope my kids look back and remember the times when we would sit, talk and be crafty!”
