Saludos a todos los foreros,
I am a native english speaker, but with a strong background in spanish (son of a spanish speaking parent, although english was my first language), and I am using the OLOP approach to teach my 13 month old spanish. I would a list of age appropriate books and spanish music CDs for my one-year old. If you have any recommendations of specific titles and authors or artists I would really appreciate it.
And, of course, any other non-native spanish speakers, ideas/encouragement on raising my son to be bilingual english/spanish would be greatly appreciated.
Saludos,
Lou
Hi Lou!
Welcome to the SB forums!
I would highly recommend the Habla Blah Blah cd´s for your one year old since they are very rythmic and repeat basic vocabulary words in Spanish that are probably the ones your daughter is hearing a lot right now. Like agua, hambre, comer, jugo, elefantes, gracias, hola, etc..The music production is great so you´ll actuall enjoy it as well…even after the millionth time u play it! Their website is http://www.hablablahblah.com.
also, any CD by Juan Luiz Orozco, especially Diez Deditos.
I really hope you find the support and advice you need from other SB friends and also from the resource articles we´ve posted for OPOL families. There´s tons of great advice on the Ask an Expert archive.
Le agradezco Ana por sus sugerencias. Voy a tratar los Habla Blah Blah cds como me sugirio.
Espero aprender mas en este estudpendo sitio sobre como criar mi nino bilingue.
Un abrazo
Lou

Here is what I've done
1. Go to the public library and ask the librarian for help finding children's books in Spanish. Even if your goal is to purchase books, the library's selection was created by professionals, and most will be classics that are still in print so you can find the same title to buy via internet, if your child likes it. If you don't see a Spanish books section in your library, don't assume they don't have any. Many books are available by reserving them in their computer system and/or interlibrary lending.
2. Google your favorite children's books in English with their title in quote marks followed by the word Spanish. Example: "where the wild things are" Spanish.
3. Check out Amazon.com's "listmania". Just type in listmania on the main Amazon page, and a screen will come up with a little box on the left hand side that says search listmania, and you can type in: children's books in spanish.
Good luck, and have fun!
