OfflineHi everybody,
I have been reading your website, blogs and contributions for a while now. And just this morning I realized that since I was getting so much in return from all of you I should at least introduce myself, share my story and help in any way I can with our own experience…
My name is Silvia. I am from Madrid, Spain and I have been living and working here in Minnesota for the last 12 years. My husband is from Chennai, India and has been here also for basically the same number of years…
Our daughter Indira Lola is now 15 months old. She was born here in Minnesota. So we are proud to say she is Spanish-Indian-American… not necessarily in that order …
My husband and I are the first and only generation in both of our families to live outside our countries and marry someone from a different country. And even though all we get is positive comments and help from family members, everything is new for all of us.
I just wanted to thank all of you who share their stories. It truly helps people like us who are starting their journey in not only parenting but also bilingual parenting. Reading your posts and comments made me realize that we are not alone and that Indira Lola will belong to a new generation of kids with a great mix of backgrounds that will enrich them. It has given us hope that she will be proud of her backgrounds, languages, traditions and different cultures.
So simply… thank you.
