This amazing program is celebrating it’s 20th year anniversary this year.  My son is a kindergardener in  Grand View’s

dual immersion program.  There are tours every week on thursday morning at ten, come see for yourself.  We live in Venice and this great program is available to all LAUSD students by permit.

I am a HUGE advocate for dual language instruction in
general, and the program at Grand View is really exceptional!  It's been a hidden gem on the west side for almost 20 years.  It's been historically underpromoted because the faculty is so busy doing what they do best – educating our children – that they don't have time to really get the word out about the program.

I would love to share the treasure of Grand View with the SpanglishBaby Community.  In addition to Thursday
mornings, I can offer tours at different times during the week depending on my schedule which fluctuates.  I will always do my best to accomodate the schedule of anyone interested in learning more
about or unique immersion program.

I believe space is granted on a first come first serve basis, so if you are interested, hurry over and fill out an application.

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or to set up a tour.

Grand View is currently accepting applications for their
Dual Language Program for  Pre-K,
Kindergarten & 1st Grade.

It is
an excellent program with highly trained and dedicated faculty whose passion
for the program really make it shine! There is also an extremely high level of parental involvement in the program.  It's very much like a being part of a
big beautiful familia at Grand View. I strongly encourage anyone looking for quality education
and a welcoming atmosphere to stop by and get to know us.

Thank you Heather and Janine for posting this! I need to take it as another "sign" that Grand View is the right school for my girl. We currently live in the Franklin Elementary district in Glendale and had our hopes on just walking into their DL program. They just became a magnet, so now there is no guarantee we will get in.  Also, my husband works in Westwood and is tired of the commute and I'm tired of him not being close enough when needed to coordinate pick ups, etc.

All this to say that we're considering a move to the West side but refuse to go to a district with no DL programs.  A blogger friend of mine, Sara A., has two children at GV and speaks highly of it. I already have the March 16 orientation date on my calendar and am going for sure.  Is it OK if I bring along some SpanglishBaby flyers with the top reasons why your kids should be raised bilingually?

Looking forward to meeting you!!

Best.

Ana

Hi Ana,

The magnet situation sounds frustrating, but I think you'll be very happy with Grand View…and the Mar Vista Community.

Coincidentally, it was after speaking with Sarah A. that I was convinced Grand View was the right place for my son.

I look forward to meeting you (and your family?) on the 16th.  If you
would like a tour before then, contact me and we'll set one up.

You can absolutely bring the Spanglish Baby flyers with you.  Thanks for offering!

Best regards,

Heather

I thought the ‘LAUSD Dual Language Directory’ might be of
interest to the Spanglish Baby Community.

There are more and more of Dual Language Programs starting up in our
District, due in large part to the requests made by parents. So, keep on
requesting – emails, phone calls, letters, etc. to the LAUSD Board, the LAUSD
Superintendent and Local District Superintendents.

It is my personal hope that one day soon every child will have the
opportunity to learn in two languages from K-12.  In the meantime, I hope that there is at least
something out there for those in the Spanglish Baby Community seeking a Dual
Language Program for their children.

Please note that Grand View Blvd. Elementary in Local District 3 is
the ONLY 90/10 Model in all of the LAUSD.  However, we do except students into our
program from outside our local district.  To find out more about this unique and highly
effective program, please contact me: Heather Austin, ParentalEngagement@gmail.com,
