Yum Yum Yum!! Your photos look DELICIOUS. Peruvian food is my ultimate favorite cuisine, my father in law's wife in Peruvian and she always takes good care of me especially after I had my two babies. She cooked up a storm with different Peruvian dishes. We are planning a trip to Peru next year, I am totally excited .. especially about eating there!!

Hello Roxana. Mucho gusto - if only in cyberspace for now. I recently added by blog to the Blogs by Latina directory and saw you are in Colorado too. This post is fantastic. FYI, you can get some pretty good empanadas in NW Denver at the Empanada Grill Express - although not Peruvian, they are Venezuelan, I think you might like them.

Shoot me an email and maybe we can get together sometime.

Roxana, you're just going to have to learn how to cook Peruvian food! Why? So you can give me some recipes! :P Perú is on my bucket list of places I must visit. And now, after seeing the photos of what you ate, I know that is it one place that can't be skipped. Everything looks delicious and I am dying to taste the famous lúcuma you talk so much about! Also, another thing I noticed we have in common... A love for Inka Kola! I have a grocery store here in Chicago that carries it on a regular basis and now I'll think of you each time I see it :) A few of the photos reminded me of things I ate in Panama because salsa criollo is very popular there, too. I'll have to see if I can dig out a photo to show you. Thanks for this little photo essay full of insight into Peruvian cuisine!

I am hungry now and I just finished lunch. Peruvian food is the one thing (after my family) I miss the most. I am a pretty good cook, but finding the time ( and the right ingredients) to cook Peruvian is always a challenge for a working mom. I do try to make some as often as possible, but I always get stuck with the same dishes because they are the fastest. I can't wait 'till mom gets here to visit this summer!!

Ay, que ricoooo! My husband's Peruvian and we lived in his town (a suburb of Trujillo) for 2 years. And man, they eat well in Peru!!! We're actually going to a Peruvian restaurant tomorrow, so I won't have to suffer too long from the cravings this article (and pictures) gave me!

Oh.... you made my mouth water. I'd give anything for some of that Peruvian food right now! There are several things I recognized (because my dad is Peruvian) but since I've never been to Peru, there were several I've never seen or heard of before. Someday Peru....... Thanks for sharing!

Gracias, Susan! I'm so excited for you guys! I'm glad things worked out with the travel agency!

I think it's an amazing idea for you to see if your host family will teach you how to cook some of the staples of our cuisine. I'm sure they'll be more than happy and then you can come back here and share with the rest of us!!

Can't wait to hear all about your trip!
