Yes, Mary! We usually eat after midnight and we open presents after we eat, so Noche Buena ends up lasting until the wee hours of the morning. The children in the family open presents Christmas Day after Papá Noel leaves them under the tree!!!!
I think the midnight thing has to do with the fact that when I was younger, we always went to la Misa de Gallo - but we haven't done that in the longest time...

I don´t have any family around, but we´re blessed with many friends who will help us start our own traditions this Christmas.
At my mom´s house the tradition is to have dinner until after midnight-plenty of drinking and boquitas before that-and open presents in the morning, in our pajamas and before an awesome breakfast.
@Roxana---you need to post your husband´s coquito recipe!!! ;)

Aaahhhh Roxana ... it all sounds amazing and a nice twist on the traditional noche buena feast. For 7 years I was part of my former husband's Latino family's traditions, and this was one of my favorites. Enjoy and Feliz Navidad amiga.
