Disney has done it again! Minnie’s Masquerade, the latest Mickey Mouse Clubhouse preschool DVD which debuts today, is wildly entertaining and has quickly become my 4 1/2 year old daughter’s favorite — thanks in (a huge) part to the amazing Mickey Mote. Shaped like Mickey ears, the Mickey Mote is a kid-friendly remote control that allows children to play interactively while watching the video. The Mickey mote has to be programmed before it can be used. Even though the instructionsRead More ...

As some of you might know, I’m taking my family back home to Perú in a couple of weeks. I am ecstatic. Looking forward to eating tons of ceviche and helado de lucuma while hanging out with all the people I love so dearly. My family has yet to meet my son, Santiago, and I get to spend my birthday over there — something I haven’t done since I was a child. But one of the things I’m looking forwardRead More ...

Just before our state was paralyzed thanks to the most frigid temperatures I’ve ever experienced in my entire life, we were actually enjoying beautiful weather here in the Rockies! In fact, last Sunday, we took a trip to Red Rocks – a must-see if you ever visit Colorado – which is a wondrous open-air amphitheater where music concerts are performed on a regular basis. The Beatles played there! On a clear day, you can actually see downtown Denver from theRead More ...

I finally filled out and turned in all the registration forms required for my daughter to enter Kindergarten this fall. After getting over the fact that she’s about to reach this humongous milestone, I also had to come to terms with the fact that she won’t be going to a dual language school — at least not for now. I can’t lie. It was an extremely difficult decision to make, but at this time in our lives, I’m confident it’sRead More ...

Regardless of your political affiliation, it’s impossible to deny that finally having an African-American become president of this nation won’t go down as one of the most significant historical events of this century. I was one of the lucky journalists to cover the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver when Barack Obama became the party’s first African-American nominee for President. I say I was lucky because I’ll never forget the feeling of hope I shared with the Latinos I wasRead More ...

Last Saturday, I had the enormous pleasure of taking my daughter to an absolutely wonderful bilingual cultural event in Denver: Cuéntame un Cuentito — storytelling at its best! Four actors/musicians took the stage and they took turns bringing to life several popular Latin-American tales by reading, signing and/or playing an instrument. Some of the stories were performed by two actors, one reading in English and the other one in Spanish. There was also one guy who would play the congasRead More ...
