As many of you know, around this time last year, we started our trilingual adventures with Little Pim in an effort to teach Vanessa my third language, French. While I haven’t been as consistent as I would’ve liked to, Vanessa tells everyone who’s willing to listen that she speaks three languages! The good thing about learning French with Little Pim (or any other of the nine languages they offer) is that it’s a complete package. They have the DVDs –Read More ...

My daughter just experienced her first Scholastic Book Fair at school. I volunteered to work the fair a couple of days, not only because I wanted to help, but also because I wanted to see her in action. And, it was just as I expected, she was in book heaven! The story, along with an interactive map of how Latinos are reshaping communities are both available onRead More ...

Starting next week, NPR will begin a series entitled Two Languages, Many Voices: Latinos in the U.S. on Morning Edition. TheRead More ...

In honor of National Taco Day, (which was yesterday, but since I didn’t even know it existed, I think it’s okay that I’m a day late) I figured I’d share with you the delectable tacos I’ve been stuffing myself with for the last three months at the awesome food truck setup right outside my downtown Denver office! Although my fave street taco by far is al pastor, I haven’t really found any (just yet) that truly taste like the onesRead More ...

Yesterday, I cried. And then, I got really angry. It happened when I read this story about what’s happening in Alabama after the most ludicrous immigration laws were passed there last week. Latino parents are withdrawing their children from schools there fearing a new law that requires schools to check students’ immigration status. How can this be happening? And, more importantly, what does it say about who we are as a people and the kind of society we’re becoming? SchoolRead More ...
