		<description><![CDATA[Thanks for the concise answer! As a non-native speaker of the language I&#039;m teaching my child (German), I&#039;m trying to provide plenty of opportunities to hear native speakers, such as an immersion preschool and books and shows in German.

I like the idea from Elizabeth not to answer if he doesn&#039;t speak to me in German. That sounds like a gentle way to emphasize the language! Thanks!

		<description><![CDATA[Thank you for such an eloquent answer to a question that must be thrown at us several times a day as we raise our children to be bilingual.  Even though I know the answers and the research behind them, it is so nice to hear someone else preach it also!  As you said, one of the biggest challenges that we will have is keeping our children speaking Spanish as they grow older.  I think it is important to add that one way to help overcome this obstacle is to consciously remember to only respond to your child when she speaks to you in Spanish.  My experience has been that if we start this (only responding to the child when she addresses us in Spanish) immediately and early on, then the “battle” is less of a battle.
