I looked back to a kinder time when you really wanted your candidate to win,
but felt that their opponent was also a good person. In my classroom when I ask any person if
they were teased as a child the answer is always the same.

In recent years we have been fed the idea that political correctness is finally
a way of life in America.

A few other free ideas... as for finding a spanish play group, if you can't find one, think about starting your own. One great site is www.meetup.com You can start any kind of group you would like and make it public or private.

Another idea is to find someone through skype (video conferencing) who would be interested in chatting w/ you or your daughter (this may be a way for you to learn the language as well). Perhaps someone who wants to learn English and you could return the favor. I don't know of any specific websites but some friends were just telling me about this and that there are several sites dedicated to helping people this way. It may be worth googling it.

Yes, I am raising my children to be bilingual without a native speaking parent. We use pretty much all the suggestions mentioned... we have a native speaking babysitter/nanny along with a large collection Spanish books, music, etc. It is not easy or cheap, but I am determined to expose them to the culture and language. One additional recommendation I have to make is to order the Spanish/Latino package thru your cable or dish provider. They have many great programs like Plaza Sesamo, Dora, Diego and so many more but ALL in Spanish. We said goodbye to Disney and all the other shows and now my kids watch all their shows in Spanish--hey, if they're gonna watch tv, at least they are learning a second language right?! The big challenge is getting them to speak Spanish... we also do classes that emphasize speaking Spanish so that helps. We hope to continue on the path and get them in a bilingual school. Being bilingual is such a gift. It is so worth all the effort.

It's so true Jasmine! Simona's suggestion of bringing a Spanish speaking person into the life of your infant is really important. We had a woman from Columbia from about 3 months old - 11 months old, and just those 8+ months made a difference in the wiring of our daughter's brain when it came to Spanish and English.

I know! I know! It's not the reality for EVERY home to be able to afford this, so the other options of bilingual CDs and DVDs for both you and your husband to learn along with your baby are great as well!

¡Buena suerte! / Good luck! (and good for you for having the mentality of two languages are better than just one!)
