This is a great post and hits very close to home for me. I am the oldest of three girls born to a Mexican mother and American father. I was born in Guadalajara and spent my first three years there before my family moved to the U.S. My Dad spoke to me in English and My Mom in Spanish always. My Mom had my sisters in the States, and for whatever reason, even though she and I spoke Spanish at home, I spoke to my sisters in English. To this day, she jokingly blames me for their lack of fluency. Now that I have two little ones of my own, it's something I'm even more aware of and I worry that my younger son won't be as fluent as his big sister - thanks for these tips! I will be sure to implement them :)
