One little piece I’ve recently added to our lives is switching our Nintendo Wii and DS languages to Spanish. I usually restrict their video game time pretty severely, but I’ve been giving them a little bit more leniency when they are playing some “story” type games in Spanish. There is actually quite a lot of text in some of the games, and the boys are also very willing to talk about the games in Spanish with me, so that’s helping a bit, too.

I had penpals all over the world growing up and it was a wonderful experience I’ve been trying to recreate for my kids but people just don’t seem as dependable with regards to sending letters back in a timely manner. I’ll give E-mail pen pals a chance, (though I still love the idea of getting real mail in the mailbox from somewhere very far away.)
