I really like Melanie’s advice and would just like to add: while you are purchasing books in Spanish for your son, also get some books for yourselves (in English) about topics that interest you. If you like novels try a biography. If you like fix-it projects, try a history book about an engineering feat like the pyramids. You can have reading time as a family even though you are reading different things. Try to also encourage telling each other about the things you are reading. The example of parents themselves reading for pleasure is very, very helpful. I would also like to say fruit smoothies are a great reward — have fun making them together and pushing the noisiest button on the blender :-)
