Just a question, why would it help to play the audio from a movie in Spanish, but use English subtitles? Whenever I have played soundtracks in Spanish, I find I can "catch" more of what the actors say if I can read along in Spanish. I have never thought to use English subtitles, but if helps with comprehension I will try it.

I am trying to learn Spanish on my own so I am always seeking tips to help me, so this post definitely caught my eye, thank you!

As a non-native speaker helping my children acquiring English, I totally agree with Karen. I'd add two more principles: be enthusiastic about the language you want to help your child with, and make learning fun. Use the language a lot during play. I learnt a lot from children's books and movies (Caillou movies for example use a lot of everyday situations - they might exist in a Spanish version too). We often cook together using the language too, and sing a lot of songs and rhymes.
