Lori, I laughed so much! I am from Puerto Rico and in my country some of those superstitions exist. Every time someone tells me I should do one of those strange things I always ask, Why or what for? If they can’t give me a good reason, I politely tell them I will talk to the pediatrician! So many traditions!! You are definitely very open! Good for you!!

My mom knows how to “sobar para el empacho” I remember that any time we complained about stomach ache, she was sure we had something “pegado” to our stomach (empacho), and by roughly rubbing our back and then pulling it out she would unstuck whatever was “pegado” to our stomach. After that she gave us a “cucharada” of olive oil and taran! we felt much better. I don’t know if all the rubbing-pulling skin worked out, but I’m sure the olive oil cleaned my stomach like no other medicine did.
My mom also “subia la mollera” to us and a to a lot of crying baby kids that were brought to her every day with the “mollera caida”.
