I registered my daughter as a Costa Rican in early 2012 and we visited January 2013. We traveled with US passports and didn't have to deal with "trámites and an autorización and timbres." Maybe they just weren't paying attention...but if you don't tell the people at the airport your children are dual citizens and you are using US passports as US citizens... would they have a way to know? Are we required to tell them? We are going again the day after Christmas. I'll let you know how it went.

We are citizens of the world.. Last night I watched an Isabel Allende's interview, she says "when people ask me, I say I'm from nowhere, or I'm from Latinamerican!" I think I'm adopting this answer.
Greetings!

People told me the same thing about my son, born abroad in Mexico (that he can't be the US president). I tell them that's fine, who likes a politician anyway? I tell them that I aspire him to be a rock star.. everyone loves a rock star, AND they live in bigger houses than the president! ;)

I loved this, Kim. I completely identified. Un poco ni de aquí, ni de allá, pero completamente vives entre dos mundos.
I always say I'm Salvadorean, but I wasn't born there, have no passport, cédula or nothing that says I am from there. Yet, every time I arrive to the airport and the migración official takes my U.S. passport, the first thing he asks is why I'm visiting. I tell him I'm coming to see family and my parents are from there. He stamps my passport and lets me go right through without making me pay the tourist visa. I'm home :)
