So we decided to celebrate Hispanic Heritage by visiting the Smithsonian Latino Center online and taking a virtual tour of their collection and talking about it. We also went to our local libraries and checked out spanish books and looked at hispanic heritage displays.

What ideas do you have for sharing with very young children in that 30min in a classroom setting? We taught the kids Los Pollitos with hand motions, showed them a globe some big pictures of places in Latin America, and they did a craft making carnival masks. Obviously, we were very unprepared. I’m not certain about the best way to approach the classroom setting.

But then I forgot about it and really never celebrated it.

Now that you mentioned it I want to start a little tradition for the same reason, so my kids are more exposed to the Latino culture. It is a good thing we are having “seco de pollo” for dinner tonight. That will help me introduce this celebration. Maybe I will play some Eva Ayllón music :0)

I love the potluck idea! Maybe I will set something up with the one other Latina (and family) I know! lol
