As some of you already know, I’ve been working as a staff writer at MamásLatinas since the beginning of February. One of the things I love the most about my job — besides being able to put my bilingual skills to the test every single day as I write in both English and Spanish — is that one of our missions is to empower and celebrate Latina moms everywhere.

And one way of doing that is by giving them the recognition they deserve, but very often they don’t really get.

Check out how we’re doing that:

MamásLatinas is pleased to celebrate the first annual MamásLatinas Awards. Seven Hispanic mothers will be recognized for their exceptional achievements in Economic Empowerment, Community Improvement, Youth Advancement and Personal Transformation, and each will be awarded $5,000 and other prizes.  Are you one of these amazing moms? Or do you know someone who is? Then there’s no time to be wasted, the application period closes on Friday, July 13, 2012. Click here to fill in our short and simple application form. All the information is also available in Spanish in case you know somebody who feels more comfortable in that language.

It really shouldn’t take you that long to fill out the application and you can be on your way to being recognized for your hard work and sacrifice. So if you (or someone you know) are making our communities better places to live, have created a new business or are helping lead corporate efforts, are providing the next generation of Latino kids with more opportunities or have overcome great adversity, please take the time to fill out the application or let others know about MamásLatinas Awards through all your social media outlets.

While many times our culture tells us that boasting is not a good characteristic, this is one of those times that you shouldn’t pay attention. We all deserve to be recognized for our accomplishments and what better way than this one!

¡Buena suerte a todas!
