For children that can’t yet write, drawing pictures is a great way to stay in touch, say thank you, etc. Whether it’s a picture of them with the gift, or just a random picture they come up with. If you want to still allow them to practice Spanish at a young age, you could label the drawing for them. For example: If your child draws a cat, then write “GATO” underneath with them.

It’s super important to get our kids to write in Spanish because they’re only getting English in school.

And since the family in Mexico don’t receive many letters, it’s special for them too. The 3-year-old can’t write but can draw una carita feliz o un corazon for his abuelito y abuela. Or sometimes he draws something nobody can actually identify LOL. Sometimes the kids have sealed their letters in envelopes before I get a chance to look at them (they love decorating the envelopes) and their abuela says later she didn’t understand something here or there. But it’s all good! We can’t get to visit them all the time so I think it just is really good for them to know we are thinking about them up here.
