I heard this on NPR and then my daughter shared with me a link to a story on CNN about something our hometown is doing: "Against the grain, Dayton, Ohio embraces immigrants" http://www.cnn.com/2011/10/08/us/ohio-dayton-pro-immigrant/index.html

I'm so proud of my hometown and very, very grateful for the media reporting on some places that are looking at these issues rationally. It's easy to get discouraged with everything that is on the news and my husband has started to say "estoy muy cansado de estar aqui".
My folks are a very white-bread and conservative anglo background, and at my work Fox "News" is always very popular for the tv in the lunchroom. But without exception every one of my family, friends and coworkers have listened carefully when I explain the realities about immigrants are not really like what is said on tv. They know me and they know my husband, and many people have told me that their opinions about our politics have changed after hearing the truth. I have also gotten overwhelmingly positive support from "my" people about our raising our son bilingual.
It's sure nice to see the media showing this side for a change!
