Hi Carla, thank you for the suggestions, I especially like the part about having story time. And as far as adding a 3rd language it's never too late. What language are you thinking of introducing?

Hi Kazi, I'm glad my story reassured you some. Being in Croatia where Beli heard Croatian spoken all the time and I was the only one speaking to her in Spanish, she caught on real quick. I'm inspired that you decided to raise your daughter bilingual. Good luck and if you ever have any doubts, questions, please feel free to send me an email.

How wonderful that she knows 3 languages! We're always thinking about adding a third. To encourage her to speak more Croatian maybe have family send over books and movies in Croatian. Create a special story time just for her and daddy so they can share the language. Good luck and thank you for sharing! Your daughter is so lucky to have already traveled so much and come from such a diverse background =)

This helped me some :). I'm an African-American with a master's in Spanish utilizing the OPOL strategy with my 12 month old daughter (her father speaks English). She hasn't said anything yet, but understands "prende la luz" "dónde está skye (her dog)" and other small phrases, but it worries me that she won't be able to completely learn the Spanish language because when Papu comes home it's English. I maintain the Spanish only with her, but the television is in English, the music is English, the conversation to Papi is English, etc. While she's home with me all day, it still concerns me that the abundance of English around her will override my efforts. Reading this helped me as far as the confusion is normal. It's one thing to read studies and another to read an experience that parallels to my own.
