My suegra has been visiting us from Puerto Rico for the last four weeks. She’s spending Mother’s Day with us and a couple of days later she’s going back home.
This is only the second time she sees my son Santiago since he was born. The first couple of days, he wasn’t sure who she was, but now he’s grown to love her and calls her Ta — since he can’t say Abuelita — and she melts.
Vanessa and I were trying to figure out what to get her for Mother’s Day when I was given the opportunity to review the new Kodak EASY SHARE M532 Digital Camera and the Kodak PULSE Wi-Fi Digital Picture Frame and I knew these would be perfect for her for a couple of reasons.
First, my children only get to see her once a year, so having a digital frame full of their pictures I’m sure would make her happy. Second, she’s really not that tech savvy so any kind of digital equipment has to be incredibly easy to use. Luckily, both the camera and the frame (after the initial setup) fall under this category.
In fact, I gave the camera to Vanessa and told her to take pictures for Abuelita to remind her of her trip to Denver, our family, our house, our neighborhood, etc. Needless to say, Vanessa was ecstatic and I must admit I was pretty impressed with the results.
Take a look for yourself. These were all taken by my almost 5-year-old:

Arent’t these great? Now, in all fairness, my husband is a professional photographer and both Vanessa and Santiago have grown up surrounded by cameras and all the equipment in our home studio. Vanessa loves to take pictures and I’m not surprised she has an eye for it.
Word of caution: if you’re giving this to someone who is not tech savvy, like my mom-in-law, make sure you have plenty of time to set everything up for them. It does take a while to figure everything out even for those of us who consider ourselves tech savvy. It took my husband, who is a professional photographer and knows this type of equipment well, several hours to figure out how to get the camera to send the photos to the digital frame using the Eye-Fi SD card. Once he did, the outcome was pretty cool even though it does take a while for the photos to appear in the frame — a while as in a few hours!
Can’t wait to see my mother-in-law’s face when we give her the digital frame loaded with photos of her grandsons! And one of the coolest features it has is that we set her up with her own email address so that we can actually send her new photos there and they will upload directly to the frame. She is going to love that!

What a great idea to be able to automatically load pictures for someone on a digital frame. I know for sure my mom and my in-laws would love it.

Sí, the digital frame was definitely a hit with my mother-in-law. She said she can spend hours just standing in front of it watching all the photos we uploaded for her. Definitely a great present for family members, especially if they’re far!
