Excellent idea, Susan! what a great way to get kids directly involved with learning.

I would recommend Frida Kahlo, she´s always a colorful person to cover.

Using technology to explore distant cultures seems like a natural fit. Have you every heard of a "virtual field trip"? You research some sites in advance, choose several that you think are the most helpful/educational, then have your students explore those sites as a class or individually.

The idea of encouraging students to write about culture and history as a way to practice verbs is inspired. Have you thought about encouraging them to write about different culture's mythology as well?

Documentaries sound like a great way to teach preterit tense. I've found that sometimes writing assignments can be challenging because they're so immersive into the language and require many skills very early, but this sounds like a cool project with a clear focus.

I took Spanish through High School and really enjoyed projects that apply other strengths (that I know well) into language development (that I was learning). It made me feel inspired to make the language skills match the other skills for a well-rounded project. This project will be a great way to "lure in" those student with developed technology skills.

The documentary is an excellent idea! I hope that you share more about your trip to Peru with your sons also. I would like to do this next summer with my boys (they will be four and six) and I am not sure where to start.

This was a great video. I like the idea of using video to help draw the kids in to learning the language.

I just may do this with my kids, but I'm not sure what software to use with our pictures.

Anwyay, thanks for sharing. I made sure to hit the like button on YouTube.
