I also learned the bulk of my Spanish in a university. I absolutely love the language, but at times it just feels forced and can be hard to come up with the exact word at the moment you want it. I think if I had grown up bilingual this wouldn’t be the case and perhaps with further fluency it would taper off too. Regardless, I use paper to practice and build my vocab and sentence structure. :)

I really relate to this post, and I like the analogy used. I find that when I’m in a bad mood, my Spanish takes a nose dive. It’s made me wonder if language ability, specifically 2nd language ability is somehow less accessible when there’s a drop in serotonin. It would be interesting if there was a scientific reason for it…
