That's a great story, Beth! I'd never heard of a sweater being called an abrigo. To me an abrigo is a coat and a sweater is a chompa!!! Jajaj!!

I'm glad to hear about someone else having confusion. I was trying to help out with the expenses of the kids' back-to-school one year and made the mistake of relying on their parents to explain the uniform policy to me. I did think it was a little strange the school required the ABRIGO to be navy-blue (which to me is a coat for outside) but hey, it seems these days, schools get stranger all the time, so I dutifully hunted for a navy-blue winter coat and finally found it... only to discover I was supposed to have been looking for a navy-blue SWEATER. That's when I figured out, when they'd told me the school prohibits a SUETER with a zipper, they must have been talking about SWEATSHIRT jackets, not sweaters... and my phone call to the school confirmed it. So actually, I could have bought those cute and practical zipper cardigan sweaters I'd seen on sale, but of course when I went back there weren't any left... What a mess. Now I always clarify exactly what people mean by ABRIGO or SUETER!
