Our situation is very similar. We are raising our two boys (2 and 4) speaking Spanish at home and English in the community. We starting learning French as a family a couple of months ago. So far, so good. My oldest son can speak some simple sentences and about 60 vocabulary words. My biggest challenge is that I do not know anyone who speaks French to help me with the pronunciations. I have to rely on CD’s and videos. I have a few posts showing the games that I have created in French to play with boys.

It’s funny! Just yesterday during a concert with 400 children and their teachers I joked that the only French word I know is ‘Target.’ Even though I took one year of French and have the Romance Language of Spanish down pact, I have not become fluent in French. In the back of my mind I wish I were, but I am not actively trying to make this happen.

Kudos to you amiga for allowing your mind to open up to a 3rd language – for you and for your child!
