I try to teach my kids that often, there are many words for one thing, or different words for slightly different things. I was reminded of this post because I asked my son what color popsicle he wanted and he answered, “Yo quiero el helado violeta, púrpura o morado.” They are definitely always one step ahead of us!

I find myself going back and forth between both words. Of course, rana=frog and sapo=toad, but we seem to use them interchangeably in Spanish. In my efforts to “not confuse” my daughter I try to stick to one rana, but sapo always comes out and I try to correct myself. But, aha! She’s smarter than me and totally gets that it is the same thing, más o menos.
They always seem to be a step of ahead of us, ¿no?
