AnaLilian, you're making me cry! We don't always see los Abuelitos, but somehow my children seem to feel a special fondness for them. We dont' have any blood family nearby, but we have good friends. Although my kids don't call my friends' kids primos, they do call my two best friends here "Mama"; Mama Noelle & Mama Crystal.
And it is sad that our kiddos don't have those days with all the primos at Abuelitas, but what can we do?? Life evolves.
Kimberly, besides their actual tias y tios, my kiddos call my BFFs tias, too. In Mexico they'd be my "comadres" because they would all be madrinas to my kiddos for one thing or other.

I can totally relate to this. I´m always complaining about my daughter not having any relatives nearby and not really grasping the concept of an abuelita or tía. She´s met them, spend some quality time with them, but every single time we see each other, usually after 4-6 months have passed, it feels like they have to start all over again.
I even have a hard time reading to her books about familias because I´m not sure if she gets it!
