Hi! I stumbled across your blog here via a google search. My family and I are moving to the Denver area really soon (2 months!) due to a job promotion/relocation for my hubs. My daughter is a kindergartner who had about a 7% chance of winning our Chicago-area school's dual language lottery. She was one of a few selected and we were thrilled then and even more thrilled with her progress in Spanish. Her pronunciation, vocabulary, and comprehensionastounds me! It's simply amazing what she has learned in a 1/2 of a school year! These programs work! Now, during our house search, we are selecting areas where we can be nearby a dual language school. I'd REALLY appreciate any advice, thoughts, etc. on selecting the right dual lang school.
Thanks!

Hi Cecy!
There´s actually a thread in our Forums with a small listing of schools in LA and Glendale that offer dual language immersion programs http://www.spanglishbaby.com/forum/dual-language-immersion-schools/

There´s also a public charter school in Canoga Park that has a full immersion program that´s very art and social sciences oriented:

While I think this is such a great opportunity, I think it would be best for certain populations. I think this is the ideal model for children who are coming from homes who speak mostly English, or all English. In the dual language program I was working in, the most difficult was the language aquisition of Spanish for the English speaking kids. They just weren't getting quite enough language exposure to achieve the same level of fluency as their Spanish speaking peers in English. I also don't think this would be the ideal in low income areas(if low parent literacy, low parent involvement, and family issues are also present) where I think delaying exposure of Spanish speakers to English may make it harder for them to meet expectations in English.
