Hi Cecy!
There´s actually a thread in our Forums with a small listing of schools in LA and Glendale that offer dual language immersion programs http://www.spanglishbaby.com/forum/dual-language-immersion-schools/

There´s also a public charter school in Canoga Park that has a full immersion program that´s very art and social sciences oriented:

While I think this is such a great opportunity, I think it would be best for certain populations. I think this is the ideal model for children who are coming from homes who speak mostly English, or all English. In the dual language program I was working in, the most difficult was the language aquisition of Spanish for the English speaking kids. They just weren't getting quite enough language exposure to achieve the same level of fluency as their Spanish speaking peers in English. I also don't think this would be the ideal in low income areas(if low parent literacy, low parent involvement, and family issues are also present) where I think delaying exposure of Spanish speakers to English may make it harder for them to meet expectations in English.

Growing up, these programs were optional in Miami and not all that popular, but now I am green with envy as I watch my best friend speak English, Spanish and French fluently. She was in a full immersion program since third. She kept learning French all through middle school, high school and college. My friend has received so much attention, career-wise just because she is fully trilingual. Well, I'm sure the Ph.D helps...

Either way, I think America is way behind on the whole multi-ling, multi-literate business. I mean, it's not like we're a melting pot or anything...

Great post. Everytime I visit the site, I convince myself that my kids are getting Baby Einstein in 8 different languages.

I say go for it! I know how difficult city traffic can be, but what a wonderful opportunity. I wish we had a school like that around here. I am seriously considering homeschooling my boys so that they can be educated in Spanish, English, and French.

I like this. I am thinking to do the French / Spanish immersion for my son when he begins school this year. I'm praying we get in.
