OK..now I need to hunt down mis amigas Colombianas to make me some Chocolate Parviao. I have an insane obsession with hot chocolate and this tradition just seems perfect!

I miss buñuelos. Thanks so much for posting this. I'm Black, but grew up with Mexican traditions from my grandmother. My great-grandmother used to make the *best* Mexican hot chocolate and I still drink it around the holidays now. My son likes it, but not my daughter. We still celebrate Christmas Eve with my dad, he cooks a big feast and then we open presents. Christmas Day is usually reserved for other families or just hanging out. I used to buy them in a town called Brentwood when we lived in Long Island. I purchase the tamales we now eat in Queens. They are delicious!

¡Felicidades! You have done an admirable job of keeping your Colombian traditions alive for yourself and your son. (By the way, he’s so cute. My oldest son had the same haircut for many years when he was younger.)

What goes into Colombian tamales? We have a family friend who is Colombian and she makes a lot of great food but that’s one dish I haven’t tried.

I like the idea of the kids getting to play little instruments during parts of the Novena de Aguinaldos.
