Reading this made me want to cry. Both my grandmothers were gone from us before I could know them. Both of my little son's grandmothers live far, far away. I am a working mom & don't have much time to make foods from my own traditions, and making foods from my husband's mexican traditions isn't easy since I'm just learning. Reading your loving, moving tribute to your Abuela has renewed my gratitude for my sisters-in-law.

I loved your abuela´s story as soon as I read it. I feel you grabbed the essence of why we hold on so tightly to certain traditions and the deeper meaning they have for each one of us.
thanks for sharing.

What beautiful stories about your Abuela. You painted a very vivid picture :)

For me, the grandmother in the house is my Suegra. She makes me a little crazy, (slight understatement there), but I really hope our boys have memories half as nice as yours of her some day, and I know that having her here has helped their Spanish and connection with their roots.

What a lovely story! I am sure that your grandmother would be so proud that you are passing on her traditions to your children. That is such a wonderful way to honor her memory.

I can relate so much!! My Abuela was the pillar of our family and the best cook ever! Her pasteles where famous, she refused to sell them and just gave them out to family, friends, friends of friends. Una docena, 2 docenas... De masa, yuca o arroz. I would help her but sadly never learned how to make them, I can't wrap a pastel to save my life!
Her memory would forever live with me, especially now with our new baby daughter who's named after her. My beloved Abuela Ana
