This is such a sweet story. Your kids are so fortunate to live close to grandma. I wish my kids were, we just have the computer to interact, that's better than nothing right? and every time we chat with my family in Mexico, my mom always ask my children to sing and tell stories, and it's very sweet to see them talk to each other through the microphone. Next time I will do the same you did, record it!!

How unbelievably sweet! It's tender moments like those that make your heart melt. When I go visit my friends and family in NJ they laugh sometimes because of all my friends, I'm the least Cubanita. So when I start singing old classics like Pin Pon or Tortillitas Para Mama, they chuckle to themselves how much closer I am to my roots now as a mother. It's nice to know I'm not the only who doesn't have all the words stored in their memory bank. My parents, well into their eighties and having had to struggle a lot in their childhood, don't have a lot of the nursery rhymes or songs to share with me. I ask them and they wish they could help me with lyrics but it's been years since they could remember them. It's stories and sites like these that connect me to the songs and stories I tell my daughters. Thank goodness for the internet!

Hola--

I long for this kind of experiences and I am happy you are having them!

It is so true, the best way to keep our culture alive is the simplest one, just interacting with our little ones. The greatest advantage appears when your child does it like Vanessa is doing it, skipping one generation and even two. by that, I mean interacting with grand parents and great grand parents who have this unspoiled richness of Latino culture in their soul!

Keep recording, and if possible, do it using a video camera that you can plug right into your TV, they love to see themselves on the screen. When time passes you play it again and that reinforces their memories of childhood.
