I loved reading Susan story. I can truly related to this as well. I am married to a Northern Wisconsin man. We have to wonderful Bilingual boys. My husband & I tried to incorporate both cultures to our children. It's kind of hard for me because I do not get to take my boys back to my hometown in Durango. Mexico as much as i would like to. It made me really happy to read Susan story about her in laws & San Miguel de Allende as I have relatives who live there.

Thank you Susan for writing this story & my wish is for some day write my own story too.

I loved reading this. It brought tears to my eyes several times.

Our stories have similarities even though they are very different. (I'm a gringa married to a Salvadoran - also named Carlos, and we live in the U.S.)

Your family's attempted intervention (in Part I), made me laugh.

I think we have similar personalities because I relate to so many of the feelings you describe. (And I used to wear Dr. Marten's too... still have a pair, in fact. LOL.)

Oh, how I love hearing your story. So many details ring so true and it pulls at my heart. It makes me very happy to hear of your girls adjusting to mealtimes and all the other times in "two worlds". I hope someday my mother and my husband's mother can meet, even though like yours they can't speak to each other, to at least share some time just being together. In the meantime we are moving between the worlds and my little son is at the very center. Thank you for adding to my faith that he will be so very, very glad someday.

I loved reading this. Inspiring to hear about your building your own life (literally with rebar sticking out!) and doing it your own way. Bravo!

I'd love to give my US born kids a rich, real experience south of the border, (my mother's homeland) with an extended stay someday...thanks for the nudge and inspiration! Any advice about how a US citizen would find work there to support our stay or find work that provided housing...We all speak Spanish. Would love to hear how others have made this happen...
